FUEL PRICE INCREASE: JDPI EKITI CALLS FOR MEASURES TO CUSHION EFFECT ON NIGERIANS

Justice, Development and Peace Initiative of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to come up with immediate policies and programmes that will cushion the effect of the hike in fuel price on Nigerians.

In a statement in Ado Ekiti, JDPI Director, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Akingbade noted that government ought not to increase fuel price without providing palliatives and other benefits that would give succour to the common man on the street.

He noted that JDPI was not against the removal of subsidy but necessary measures must be put in place to enable Nigerians cope gradually with the new regime.

Rev. Fr. Akingbade suggested the need for effective transportation system, increase in minimum wage, support for farmers and entrepreneurs and provision of stable electricity.

He also requested that government should be accountable and transparent in the utilization of the subsidy fund so as to justify its withdrawal.
